Knit Ascot - Free Pattern

Spring has officially sprung here in Sacramento. The weather is warming up, wildflowers are blooming, and my allergies are raging. Shout out to the allergy pills and eye drops that are getting me through the season! As much as I love the warm weather, it was definitely a bummer to have to put away all of my lovely knit scarves from the cold season. In need of some fresh spring outfit ideas, I started scrolling through Pinterest. I kept seeing photos of adorable silk neckties (aka "ascots") and the wheels started turning. "I should make a knitted version!" Thus, the knit ascot was born.
Using a simple garter stitch and some increase/decrease rows, I whipped this baby up in just a couple of hours. I chose to use worsted weight yarn which is light enough for spring, but still knits up quickly. I just love the coral red - it gives the perfect pop of color to any outfit. I donned my finished ascot at a food and wine festival in Napa with my lovely fiance and got a ton of compliments!

Materials
Yarn:
Worsted Weight, approximately 60 yd (55 m). I used Red Heart Chic Sheep Merino Wool in “Sunset”.
Tools:
Straight knitting needles, size US 7 (4.5 mm)
Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations
St = Stitch
Slip 1 St = Slip one stitch to other needle
KFB = Knit in front and back of stitch (for increasing)
K = Knit
K2tog = Knit two stitches together (for decreasing)
Instructions
Cast on 1 St
Row 1: KFB (2 St)

Row 3: Slip 1 St, K across (4 St)
Row 4: Repeat Row 3 (4 St)
Begin Increase
